Monitoring site purpose
Many organisations undertake water monitoring for a variety of purposes. These high-level purposes are presented in the State monitoring section. Sites monitored within the Regional Water Monitoring Partnership (RWMP) may be monitored for a single purpose or for multiple purposes. Sites sometimes have a single RWMP partner use the information on a regular basis. There are many sites that are used by multiple partners on a regular basis. The site purpose may differ from organisation to organisation.
The data collected at sites is made available to the public via the Water Measurement Information System (WMIS), hence over time it can be used for reasons outside of its primary purposes for monitoring. For example, students, researchers, or consultants can use data collected at sites for a variety of reports or investigations. This may include flood studies, bushfire impacts, blackwater events and more.
