Rainfall and weather monitoring

Rainfall monitoring helps us understand how much rain has fallen within a given area within a given period, and how this differs over time.

Rainfall data is measured continuously at over 220 locations in our network, often accompanying river monitoring or contributing to our flood warning systems. Weather parameters are collected continuously at a small number of sites. Rainfall and weather monitoring primarily supports Victoria's flood forecast and warning systems, with data collected on behalf of the Bureau of Meteorology and local councils.
